hi, I'm Sarah
You’re determined to get into that top ensemble but the last audition didn’t go so well. You know you can play challenging music, but nothing comes out right when you perform it.
Don’t you wish you had a musical toolkit that enabled you to understand the notes on the page and learn music more efficiently?
That’s where I come in!
that's where i come in.
I’m Sarah Weisbrod, a Twin Cities, Minnesota-based flutist and teacher. I’m passionate, and admittedly obsessed, with helping you conquer obstacles on the flute.
Sound familiar?
I'm so glad you're here!
Learning the magic of taxis and elephants
My journey began in college when I finally had my first private flute teacher. I was so excited to study with her, but my playing was a bit of a hot mess:
• Double-tonguing? I didn’t even know how to do it properly.
• Intonation? It was terrible.
• Auditions? I was 32nd overall in my freshman placement audition. OUCH!
It was a long road from going from 32nd chair to playing in the top orchestra by my junior year. And, the thing that made it all click for me? Taxis and Elephants
I know what you’re thinking, “what does this have to do with music?”
Well, over certain notes, my teacher would write those words to show me how they were emphasized, just like we stress certain syllables in spoken language. My teacher learned this technique from William Bennett (WIBB), who is a great source of inspiration for me. Her teaching led me to participate in WIBB's masterclasses and retreats WIBB. And, it made me want to learn more about WIBB's teacher, Marcel Moyse, and study with one of Moyse's students.
How it all began...
Once I finally began to understand how music is a language, my technical and pitch issues were easier to overcome.
In the 15+ years since I became a private flute teacher, I’ve amassed a wide array of teaching techniques that I use in my own daily practice and with my students.
And now i'm going to share them with you.
I'm here to meet your where you're at and guide you on your journey towards achieving your flute goals.
